Scientists at Evergen are engaged in all three main approaches to generate transgenic rabbits, i.e., the pronuclear DNA microinjection, the ES cells, and the somatic cell nuclear transfer.

We have a well established system for the conventional pronuclear DNA microinjection in rabbits, one of the very few in the world. We are proud to consistently achieve over 10% transgenic rate in our past projects. Importantly, we also involve heavily in the research of rabbit ES cells and rabbit SCNT.

Pronuclear DNA microinjection: we provide services to use pronuclear DNA microinjection method to generate transgenic rabbits. Normally this method is ideal for the insertion of new genes to the rabbit genome, for example, to generate humanized transgenic rabbits, or to use rabbit as a bioreactor to produce certain therapeutic proteins.

The whole package service includes animal purchase, animal care, hormone treatment, superovulation, oocyte harvest, DNA microinjection, embryo culture, embryo transfer, near natal care and sampling of kits.

We expect our customers to provide high quality DNA construct, to perform genotype confirmation of the animals, and to transport animals after completion of the project.

Rabbit ES cells and SCNT: these two approaches are still in the research stage, although they hold promise for the generation of gene targeted transgenic rabbits. Gene targeted transgenic rabbits are important tools to study gene functions, mechanisms of diseases, drug screening and many more. We are open to different ways to participate, for example, as subcontract, or as the primary contractor.
